New movie = New post!

Maybe because it's Friday the 13th or perhaps I'm just bored at work, but the apparent par for the course is that everytime I see a new movie or show that I've enjoyed, I tend to get inspired to post in my blog.

So here we are again... (cue Peter Cetara)

Steph and I saw "The Producers" on a whim Wednesday night and I am SO happy we did! Such a fun show and the characters were very broad and very over-the-top, which was to be expected as this is adapted from the hugely successful musical. There were times in the film that I thought the acting choices may have been a bit to stage'ish (people who do theatre can understand what I'm saying) and there were moments that seemed awkward when they were taken into specific New York setttings (the fountain scene in particular). However, Will Ferrell steals the show (again) and I advise you to stay all the way through the credits to hear how his song ends as well as a nice cast bumper to send you on your way home.

Next on the film agenda for me is the gothic "Underworld: Evolution," and it can't get here soon enough. I was a huge fan of the original film ("Underworld") and have been waiting to see how the obvious sequel would play itself out. Kate Beckinsale is a surprisingly strong action heroine as she was previously known for mostly prim and proper Brititsh roles. Plus the mythology is really cool and obviously borrows some from the White Wolf series (if any of you are geeky enough to know what I'm talking about). At any rate, it should be a fun, action movie and I'll let you know the verdict after January 20th!

This past weekend, Steph and I also went back to her alma mater, Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We were privilaged to see the first professional staging of one of her classmates plays, entitled Phenomenon of Decline. It was a one-act and Steph had actually been in the original staged reading of it when it was written and being workshopped. It was really well done and was off to ACTF in central Illinois when they were done in Kalamazoo. We went out with the writer, director, and cast afterwards for a night of merriment and what-not and it was really nice getting to meet people from Steph's circle of college friends and find out a bit more of her history. We also got to see the new library as well as a brief tour of the campus, which was really nice. It definately has the feel of an Augustana College or St. Ambrose University, but it's literally built into the side of a hill and it makes for some cool images of nature and a nice earthy ambiance.

Scrubs is back on Tuesday nights now and is SO good. If you have never seen it, there's no time like the present to get involved. The Office has moved to Thursday's and if NBC has any brains at all, they'd can Four Kings (sorry Seth Green, I love your work, but this one just ain't happening - see ya' on Family Guy) and put Scrubs in that slot and you've got the return of Must See TV!

And by the way, if the New Year's celebration taught us anything it is that we, as a people united, need to turn our collective backs on Mariah Carey as soon as humanly possible.
